For the first time since its inception in Poland in 1971 the International Conference on Transport & Sedimentation of Solid Particles will be hosted outside of Europe. Cape Town, South Africa is the host city for the 19th International Conference, which takes place from 24 - 27 September, 2019.

Peter Goosen from the Cape Town office of Paterson & Cooke is on the organising committee, together with representatives from Wrocław University, University of Stellenbosch and Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Peter, together with Rene Nsanzubuhoro, Melchior Stander, Brian Zengeni and Dakalo Nekhavhambe, all from Paterson & Cooke, Cape Town, are currently preparing papers for presentation at the conference.

What the Conference is all about

The Conference will provide a forum for the exchange of information on various aspects of pipeline transport of non-Newtonian flows (including oil & petroleum products) and sediment transport in river systems. The Conference is expected to cover all the aspects of conveyance of solids by fluids, motion of solids and solid-fluid interaction in closed and open conduits. The topics of interest include:

  • Two-phase and multiphase flow, Newtonian and non-Newtonian flow
  • Designing, optimization and operation of hydro- and pneumo-transport system, wear and corrosion, pumps and valves, etc.
  • Sediment transport in rivers and water reservoirs, hydraulic storage of tailings, sedimentation and thickening
  • Measurement methods and techniques, field and laboratory instrumentation, industrial systems
