Engineering Services

Executing large projects requires the integration of a range of engineering disciplines. While we generally provide these services as part of a design package, we also use these specialities to solve challenging problems for our clients.

Specialised Civil & Structural

Our in-house civil and structural support for our mining projects ensures full integration of different disciplines from the initial concept design, thus avoiding the additional costs of coordination and changes. From concept definition, design, analysis, and detailing, we are well-suited to assist our clients with site-specific assessment, supervision, and commissioning.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

With today’s enhanced computing power, CFD is even more valuable to the mining industry. The design, problem resolution, and validation of the processes utilised with slurry mining equipment are uniquely suited to the strengths of CFD.

Using CFD, we can assist in equipment geometry optimisation for a fraction of the cost of physical prototypes. Even slight improvements gained from CFD optimisation can lead to a significant reduction in operating costs and downtime, resulting in increased profitability, and can help ensure the safe operation of an effective and productive mining business.

Transient Analysis

Our experienced engineers simulate a range of operating conditions to ensure a robust and cost-effective solution for each system. The analysis includes the unique requirements and operating scenarios of pump and pipeline systems, considering normal operational sequences, abnormal events, and system control. Often transient analysis is also employed for incident investigations.

Pipeline Stress Analysis

Our specialists evaluate pipeline stresses arising from internal pressures, temperature fluctuations, seismic activity, and other environmental or operational forces, and how these stresses and forces interact. We use advanced engineering software backed up by years of experience to identify high stress locations, potential failure zones, and opportunities for design optimisation before problems arise in the field. Our team can work to a wide variety of piping codes and standards, such as EN and the ASME B31 series.

Some projects require additional work beyond ordinary stress analysis. In those cases, we have finite element analysis (FEA) capabilities that allow us to assess particular problems for both piping components and support design which allows us to develop optimised solutions.
