Paul Carmichael

Project Engineer

BEng Mining (Hons), 2012 University of New South Wales

Paul joined Paterson & Cooke in 2022 and is a mining and backfill specialist based at our Sudbury office in Canada.

Paul’s specialisations include site commissioning and troubleshooting of mine backfill projects, fill strength optimisation, backfill system management, hydraulic modelling of backfill distribution networks, backfill incident investigation, and the commissioning, start-up and running of backfill operations both at the surface and underground.

Paul has ample hands-on experience, having started his career as an operational mining/backfill engineer in the underground hard-rock mines of Eastern Australia. This work included roles in mine planning, ventilation, backfill, and working with underground work crews. Paul then joined the international industry, commissioning and operating the first paste backfill system in Saudi Arabia before moving to North America to continue mining and backfill consulting. This experience allows Paul to work closely with operations, providing solutions that are both effective and fit for purpose.
