Role Description

Paterson & Cooke South Africa is seeking to appoint a Junior Draughtsperson to join the drawing office team, in Cape Town.

As a Junior Draughtsperson at Paterson & Cooke, you can expect to be involved in producing drawings for slurry transport systems, process plant and mining operations projects in the mining and resources industry, under the supervision of a senior draughtsperson.

The Junior Draughtsperson will work as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment, and will be expected to collaborate with a variety of people and deal with various project requirements.

This role is a full-time position with the following tasks and responsibilities:

Tasks:

  • Draw up Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's) and Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID's) from sketches provided by engineers or senior draughtspersons.
  • Produce general layouts from sketches provided by engineers.
  • Assist more senior draughtsperson with 3D modelling of systems and equipment.
  • Assist other draughtspersons to edit, correct and issue drawings of piping systems and pump stations (plans, elevations and sections) from engineers’ sketches and diagrams.
  • Assist engineers with material take-offs and development of bill of quantities, equipment lists and cost estimates.
  • If required, travel to sites to assist in measuring up and draw/detail equipment and systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to company drawing standards and procedures.
  • Ensure deadlines are met.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Formal draughting training to a National Diploma level (NQF 4/5), engineering National Diploma (NQF 6), or equivalent.
  • Experience in AutoDesk 2D and 3D.
  • Computer literacy with basic skills in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • A valid drivers’ license.
  • Must obtain a valid passport within 6 months if employed at P&C
  • A willingness to travel
  • No criminal record (due to client, travel and site requirements).

Competencies:

  • Able to function under project time constraints.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and commitment to drawing quality and accuracy.

Advantageous:

  • Hands-on experience with site measurements, fabrication, or workshop processes.
  • Exposure to/ vacation work in a mineral process plant or mining environment.
