Job Description

The Senior Draughtsperson produces drawings for slurry transport system projects as well as specialised equipment in the mining and resources industry. The Senior Draughtsperson reports to the Drawing Office Manager and assists in ensuring that drawing deliverables are done accurately, correctly and on time according to company standards and procedures.

  • Develop overland pipe routes as well as produce longitudinal sections indicating pipeline profiles
  • Develop and draw up Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) and Hydraulic Grade Lines (HGLs) from sketches provided by engineers
  • Develop layouts and detail drawings from PFDs and P&IDs
  • Develop general arrangement and layout drawings of piping systems, pump stations (plans, elevations and sections) and related specialised equipment
  • Produce pipework drawings, including arrangement, long sections and isometrics
  • Assist engineers with concept development and the designing of specialised equipment and then produce detailed drawings for production and / or fabrication
  • Perform material take-offs and develop bills of quantities, equipment lists, cost estimates and specifications as required for project deliverables
  • Check, review and mark-up of drawings ensuring compliance and adherence to standards
  • If required, travel to sites to measure up and draw/detail equipment and systems
  • Training draughtspersons on relevant CAD packages as well as technical items
  • Lead the project drawing team or contribute as part of the drawing team on projects
  • Interact with engineers to acquire information and drawing requirements for project work
  • Application of drawing skills to perform engineering design, detailing and drawing tasks

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
  • Formal draughting training to a national diploma or equivalent level
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in heavy engineering, manufacturing, process plant and/or mining environments with demonstrable drawing deliverables. At least some of the experience should include layout and detailing of pump stations and pipelines
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience on AutoCAD (2D)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience on AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience on AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience on Inventor
  • High level of computer literacy with good skills in MS Excel and Word. Able to install and develop expertise in specialist draughting-related software
  • Able to solve problems independently through research and information gathering via library, internet, equipment, catalogues and supplier contracts
  • A valid passport and drivers’ license, as well as being willing and able to travel nationally and internationally
  • No criminal record (due to client, travel and site requirements)
