Introduction

Paterson & Cooke, a 100% employee-owned company established in 1991, is looking for a Global Business Manager (GBM) to lead and coordinate our operations in Africa, Australia, Chile, Europe, North America, and South America. This new senior business leadership role within Paterson & Cooke has been created to achieve strategic alignment and integration of our businesses to support global growth opportunities. As this is an internal business role, the GBM will not perform consulting or engineering work for our clients.

The GBM will report to the Paterson & Cooke Group Board, with the directors of our operating businesses reporting to the GBM.

Prospective candidates must have suitable management, business, and leadership experience in providing consulting engineering services to the global mining industry.

Candidates should preferably live in a city in which we currently operate (it is necessary they reside in a country in which we have a business entity).

This job description provides a broad overview of the role. The board will work with potential candidates to define the role more narrowly in alignment with their experience and skills and Paterson & Cooke’s requirements. These prospective candidates will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to detailed discussions.

Primary Objectives of the Role

The primary objectives of the GBM role are:

  • To lead Paterson & Cooke in alignment with our long-term strategic business goals and vision of being “One P&C” with closely integrated operations, business methodologies, and service quality
  • Implement business initiatives as directed by the Board
  • Provide oversight of centralized business functions, including financial, marketing, human resources, and IT
  • Promote our business values
Job Duties

The job duties will include:

  • Working with the Board and operating company directors in communicating, refining, and implementing our global business strategy and assisting operating companies align their own regional strategies to this central strategy
  • Working with the directors in compiling and presenting quarterly and annual operating and financial statements. This will include liaising with the external auditors during the annual financial audit
  • Work with the operating company directors in preparing succession plans and business training and mentoring of senior staff members
  • Managing our Employee Share Plan
  • Planning our annual group meetings
  • Participating in committees responsible for risk management and business opportunity identification
  • Supporting acquisitions, including performing due diligence
  • Visiting each operation at least once annually

The person selected for the role will have the following attributes:

  • Passionate about Paterson & Cooke, and strongly believe in our growth potential and the positive impact we make to the mining industry
  • An engineering degree with leadership experience in a company providing consulting engineering services to the mining industry. Relevant business experience and qualifications will be an advantage
  • While this is not a key component of the role, it is expected that the GBM will represent Paterson & Cooke well in technical discussions with clients
  • Someone who is humble, has strong analytical skills, a collaborator, is an effective communicator, is respectful of our engineering roots, and recognizes this role is about the company, not the person
  • Someone who has the courage to make difficult decisions after careful consideration of all the issues
  • A confident, natural leader who deeply cares about people
  • Ability to travel to all countries in which Paterson & Cooke has operations
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. Skills in other languages will be a benefit

Compensation & Benefits

A competitive salary, along with typical benefits, will be offered for the position based on job-related qualifications, education history, and prior training and experience. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for annual bonus compensation based on company and individual performance.
