On Friday 29 March 2019, many of the delegates to the Paterson & Cooke Backfill Course held in Sudbury, Ontario, travelled to Timmins, some 290 km away, for a tour of Glencore's Kidd Mine paste backfill system. Visiting both the plant and the underground distribution system brought the concepts discussed during the course to life. This is the fourth year that Kidd has hosted the tour, which is always a highlight of the course. Participants were fortunate to see a stope barricade construction and to watch the paste system in operation.
P&C thanks Kidd Mine and, in particular Senior Projects and Paste fill Engineer, Kyle Buckoll and his team for their generosity in hosting this visit and for providing such a thorough and professional tour each year. As one participant said, "it is great to attend the course but everything really becomes much clearer when you see a working operation."
The dates of the next Backfill Course will be announced shortly.
Paterson & Cooke has a strong ethos of sharing their expertise with others and they present a variety of courses aimed at professionals in the mining industry.
