Job Description

Paterson & Cooke South Africa is seeking to appoint a Project Engineer with experience in process engineering and hydrometallurgy to join the metallurgical test facility team, in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be a Project Engineer with a minimum of five years’ experience working in a process plant, engineering laboratory and/or mine site environment. The Project Engineer will ideally have a background in chemical engineering.

The Project Engineer will work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment and will be expected to collaborate with a variety of people and deal with various project requirements. This role is a full-time, in-office position.

The work includes the following tasks and responsibilities:

Tasks
  • Writing test work proposals
  • Performing cost estimations
  • Designing and planning equipment layout, arrangement and operating parameters for test work
  • Establishing safety procedures for individuals working with test equipment / chemicals/ reagents
  • Conducting tests and monitoring process performance
  • Assessing processes, taking measurements, analysing and interpreting output, and writing-up reports
  • Designing, running, testing, and upgrading systems and processes
  • Troubleshooting problems associated with tests and optimising processes
  • Conducting research to develop new and improved test procedures
  • Evaluating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
Responsibilities
  • Take ownership and accountability for project outcomes; identify and implement improvements where necessary
  • Co-operate and communicate effectively with Project Managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Report regularly on project status
  • Application of technical skills to perform problem solving and engineering tasks
  • Ongoing professional development
Minimum Requirements
  • BTech/ BSc/BEng level or higher in chemical/process engineering
  • 5+ years’ engineering experience
  • Proven work experience in process engineering and hydrometallurgy
  • Knowledge of process-related equipment and operations
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Working knowledge of process engineering software packages (METSIM) would be advantageous
