Job Description

The successful candidate will be an Intermediate Engineer or Engineering Technologist/Technician with 5+ years of experience working in a consulting or operating environment in the field of Mine Backfill. Candidates should be comfortable working in an office environment, with exposure to surface and underground mine sites on an as-required basis to fulfill the needs of the projects. This position is part of the Backfill Group within our growing Sudbury office. The work will involve short (1-2 days) to medium term (2-3 weeks) travel to domestic and international mine sites. This role includes the following tasks.

  • Use technical skills applicable to the field of Mine Backfill to assist with projects at various stages (conceptual, PFS, FS, detailed engineering, implementation)
  • Work with active, operating mines to improve their backfill management processes, troubleshoot ongoing site issues, and implement upgrades. This may include opportunities for secondments on site from time-to-time
  • Develop backfill management plans and processes for greenfield operations. This may include on-site training in both a classroom and field environment to educate operators regarding the backfill process and how to operate the plant
  • Support plant/process system start-up and commissioning, as required
  • Lead small to medium sized projects, as the primary client contact, directing and managing an engineering team composed of both internal and external resources
  • Prepare engineering proposals to address client needs. P&C strives to engage with the client at project outset and prefers a collaborative working relationship
  • Assist with engineering at various stages of the project life. This shall include contributing to the design of PFDs, P&IDs, plant layouts, functional descriptions, and preparing associated cost estimates
  • Gain an appreciation for the services offered by P&C and carry out business development through interactions with clients and contacts in the mining industry
  • Technical communication, including report writing and presentations
  • Peer review of technical documents to ensure deliverables align with the high-quality of work that we have built our reputation on
  • Application of technical skills to solve problems and complete engineering tasks
  • When on site, lead by example; practicing safe behaviour and habits
  • Perform with a high-level of quality and productivity in an engineering consulting firm
  • Take ownership and accountability for project outcomes (success or failure); identify and implement improvements where necessary
  • Ongoing professional development
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
  • B. Sc. engineering degree or Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma. Preference will be given to candidates with discipline specific degrees that complement our current service offerings
  • 5+ years’ experience in an engineering consulting firm or at a mining operation
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral. Fluency in French or Spanish is considered an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Strong communications skills specifically in the delivery of presentations, technical writing, and coordinating with teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Eligible to work in Canada
