Job Description

The successful applicant will work as an engineer-in-training (EIT) on various mineral processing, tailings and slurry pipeline projects in the mining and resources industry. The work will involve travel to mine sites, primarily in North America. The work will entail the following:

Tasks:

  • Laboratory and pilot test work
  • Process design and analysis of mineral processing, tailings systems and slurry pipelines
  • Specification of system components (equipment, piping, valves, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Technical communication, including report writing and presentations
  • Onsite process and equipment audits
  • Commissioning of plant and systems
  • Cost estimating

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as part of an engineering team working on mining projects
  • Application of technical skills to perform engineering tasks and problem solving
  • Ongoing professional development towards maintaining professional registration

Job Specification

Minimum requirements and competencies:

Backfill Technologist (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada)

Job Description

Work with Senior Engineers and Technologists in Paterson & Cooke's Sudbury Practice; focused mainly on mine backfill and related projects in the mining and mineral resource industries. The work will primarily involve support within the process laboratory with occasional field work, leading into future study and design assignments. The work will entail the following:

Tasks:

  • Following standards and test procedures unique to our business
  • Setup, maintenance and upkeep on critical laboratory and field equipment
  • Sample preparation and inventory control, including manual labour and laboratory cleanup
  • Execution of onsite field trials, sample collection and audits
  • Technical communication, including report writing and presentations

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical project support to the Lab Manager, Senior Engineers and Project Managers
  • Application of technical expertise to execute challenging tasks and problem solving
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Adherence to quality control guidelines
  • Compliance to safety and regulatory requirements

  • Process Design including flowsheet development, mass balance, P&ID generation
  • Equipment specification for process system components
  • Hydraulic analysis of pump and pipeline systems including underground reticulation systems
